His best known work is The Cost of Discipleship, which was published in 1937 under the title Nachfolge or Discipleship. Dietrich Bonhoeffer's “The Cost of Discipleship” is a major contribution to the massive amount of literature on Christ's most famous sermon. For as long as I can remember, evangelical Christians have had a fascination with the life and writings of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Dietrich Bonhoeffer eloquently and vividly highlights the relationship between grace and discipleship in his classic work, The Cost of Discipleship. I'd also like to re-read Bonhoeffer's book about the Sermon on the Mount, The Cost of Discipleship, and I do remember it as an inspiring and challenging read. Bonhoeffer's moral courage left a legacy through his students and theological heirs. Cheap grace is the preaching of forgiveness without requiring repentance, baptism without church discipline, Communion without confession….
